excalidraw/excalidraw

Excalidraw is an open-source virtual whiteboard designed for sketching diagrams and wireframes with a hand-drawn style. The software provides an infinite canvas supporting built-in tools such as rectangles, circles, diamonds, arrows, lines, free-draw, and an eraser. Editor capabilities include dark mode, customizable settings, image support, shape libraries, interface localization, undo and redo controls, zooming, and labeled arrow-binding. Diagrams can be exported to PNG images, SVG vectors, system clipboard memory, or the open JSON format using the dot excalidraw file extension. Alongside the standalone web application, whose README describes end-to-end encryption and real-time collaboration, the project packages its core whiteboard editor as an npm library for embedding into other software.

The target audience includes frontend software engineers embedding sketching canvases into web applications as well as engineering teams requiring collaborative visual drafting tools. Verified technical prerequisites for embedding the editor require a React application environment containing react and react-dom dependencies. Package installation is performed using the npm package manager via npm install react react-dom @excalidraw/excalidraw or via the alternative command yarn add react react-dom @excalidraw/excalidraw. The GitHub snapshot shows the repository is not archived and records an MIT license. The documentation also links its npm package and a Visual Studio Code extension. For an alternative React canvas toolkit, compare the tldraw SDK and examine its license separately.
