NousResearch/hermes-agent

Hermes Agent is an open-source, self-improving AI agent platform developed by Nous Research that features a closed learning loop architecture. The agent creates skills autonomously from task experience, refines them during use, preserves cross-session context through FTS5 session search and Honcho dialectic user modeling, and schedules automated background jobs using built-in cron. Users can interact through an interactive terminal user interface or a single multi-channel messaging gateway connecting Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, and Signal. Command execution runs across built-in terminal backends including local, Docker, SSH, Modal, Daytona, and Vercel Sandbox. The system supports flexible model selection across Nous Portal, OpenAI, OpenRouter, and custom endpoints. The GitHub snapshot shows the repository is not archived.

The platform targets AI researchers and software developers who require an adaptive agent capable of operating across varied computing infrastructure. For installation on Linux, macOS, or WSL2, users run the shell command:
curl -fsSL https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/install.sh | bash
For native Windows installations via PowerShell, the source installer delegates Python 3.14, Node.js, npm, ripgrep, FFmpeg, and dependencies to PM and stages Git if absent:
iex (irm https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/install.ps1)
Both installer commands download and immediately execute remote code; review the scripts before running them. After installation, start a new shell as appropriate for the platform, launch hermes, or configure a provider using hermes setup. The software is released under the MIT License. For another agent platform, compare OpenClaw; its scope and workflow differ.
