supabase/supabase

Supabase is an open-source Postgres development platform engineered to provide a comprehensive backend architecture for web, mobile, and artificial intelligence applications. The platform equips developers with a dedicated hosted PostgreSQL database, automated REST APIs generated through PostgREST, GraphQL schemas provided by pg_graphql, and real-time database change broadcasting over WebSockets managed by an Elixir server. Authentication and session handling are powered by GoTrue using JSON Web Tokens. In addition, Supabase integrates RESTful file storage APIs for S3 buckets governed by Postgres permissions, database functions, edge functions, an AI vector and embeddings toolkit, an Envoy proxy, and a web dashboard. Supabase positions itself as an open-source alternative to Firebase. The GitHub snapshot records an Apache-2.0 license and shows the repository is not archived.

Users can sign up and start building immediately through the hosted cloud platform at supabase.com/dashboard without installing any software locally. Official guides also describe self-hosting and local development; features and operational responsibilities can differ from the hosted service. Application integration is handled by modular client libraries, prominently including the official supabase-js package for JavaScript and TypeScript, which bundles feature-clients for REST (postgrest-js), authentication (auth-js), real-time subscriptions (realtime-js), storage (storage-js), and functions (functions-js). Official client libraries are also provided for Flutter, Swift, and Python. Community discussion and technical assistance are hosted on GitHub Discussions, GitHub Issues, Discord, and official email support channels.
